Couple
Completed series, 2014
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
10 x 10, 14 x 11
Couple is the first series I made using stretched canvas as opposed to canvas board. I was very pleased with the result. Whereas the goal with Portland and Light had been to paint in shorter bursts, Couple represents considerably more attention to detail. Canvas board had been important for the previous two series as the canvas had to take a bit of beating during the painting process. However, as this series was a slower project, I could work with more fragile material. The result, which in many ways was influenced by the brush or palette knife being able to press down or “ride” the canvas, made the series both a new challenge and stylistically different than what I’d made before.
